2nd Grade

Meet Ms Konrad

My name is Finley Konrad, and this is my 1st year of teaching. I graduated from UW-La Crosse with a degree in Elementary/Middle School Education. I grew up in a family of educators who have inspired me to pursue a career in education. I am happy to be a part of this school, and I hope to help your child have a great experience in 2nd grade.

A few things about me:

I grew up in Westby, WI, and I am currently living in La Crosse. Outside of school, I love spending time with my family. My mom is a long time 4th grade teacher at Westby Elementary, so growing up, I spent countless hours volunteering in her classroom. I also enjoy being active and spending time outside. A few of my favorite activities include hiking, playing volleyball, lifting weights, traveling, and playing with my husky, Koda. Another passion of mine is reading. Harry Potter is my all-time favorite series, but I enjoy a variety of genres. I have a goal of reading 30 books this year!

Some of the big ideas in 2nd grade ELA include continuing to build good reading habits, while also working to comprehend longer fiction and nonfiction texts and decode and spell multisyllabic words. Students will also learn various writing styles, including personal narratives, informational pieces, procedural guides, and opinion letters. In Math, students will work to add and subtract with numbers within 100, understand place value up to 1000, and explore concepts such as time and money. In Science and Social Studies students will continue to build connections with the world around them through hands-on, engaging tasks. A few of these units include Solids & Liquids, Insects & Plants, and Pebbles, Sand, and Silt for Science, and the concepts of citizenship, communities, geography, and history for social studies.

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your child's educational journey! If there is anything I can do to support you or your child please feel free to email me at fkonrad@desoto.k12.wi.us
