Paper Quilling
Students are learning about the art of quilling. Quilling is a favorite crafting pastime but is by no means new. This paper art has existed since the invention of paper. Paper quilling is the art of cutting paper into long thin strips, rolling and pinching the pieces into different shapes, and then gluing the projects together to form decorative art.











Collages inspired by: Loui Jove
Loui Jove is a collage artist, who assembles into a single, large canvas, on which he paints in inks, oils and gouache. He uses pages from books, text and photographs to incorporate into his art.














Fabric Collage
Students created fabric collages using images or their choice.










Dolan Geiman inspired Found Object Assemblage Reliefs
Students looked at the Colorado artist, Dolan Geiman to create one of a kind found object relief. Students used recycled pop cans, plastic folders, CD's and more to create a creature of their choice.

Trip Collages inspired by: Leslie DeRose
Students created magazine collages depicting a place they traveled or would like to see. Students used viewfinder images of bicycles and drew over the top of the collage. Paint was applied to the negative spaces to create a dynamic non-objective art work.










Victoria Villasana inspired Visionary Stitched Portraits
Victoria Villasana (b. Guadalajara, Mexico) is a textile, installation and street artist. Her work primarily explores interconnection. Among her themes are the visionaries creating positive change throughout history, pop culture, social causes, and our reconnection with nature.
Through pattern, geometry and color she weaves intricate visual stories which reflect the resilience and triumph of the human spirit.
Students chose their own individual, who is a leader, visionary or making a difference in the world. Students researched their person or organization to get a better understanding of their cause and created a stitched portrait like Victoria's artwork.




Mixed Media Self Portraits
Students researched and explored way to use their self-portrait image in a mixed media composition. Each piece is unique to the student. The materials, techniques and process help to develop the final piece.










Mini Altar Assemblages
Students created visual story assemblages. Many mixed media techniques and skills were applied.







Mini Board Books
Students used a variety of mixed media techniques to create a "themed" book. Each book demonstrates the materials and techniques used.












Mixed Media Playing Cards
Students explored a variety of mixed media techniques and materials. Each one was applied to a playing card. These mini artworks will be used throughout the semester in a variety of lessons.



Textile Art
Students created a textile artwork, by using fabric and a variety of mixed media techniques. Students used fabrics, printmaking, stamps, painting, collage, and more.

Students created mixed media assemblage boxes. Students used a variety of found objects and art techniques to create a visual story.










Handmade Books
Students created handmade books by experimenting with a variety of printing techniques to produce decorative papers. Each student learned how to create an accordian or flower fold book.

Students created a mixed media composition to represent themselves. Students used multiple media techniques to apply images, patterns, colors, words and textures to their work, while creating an interesting composition.

Abstract Mixed Media Paintings
Students explored Abstract Art and how to use a view finder to create original abstract artworks. Students used a variety of art materials to demonstrate the Elements & Principles of Art. Each work of art is unique and original.

Students created "personal stories" using their self-portrait as the focal point of their artwork. Each student explored and used a variety of art materials.
