I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Craig Gerlach and it is an honor to serve you as Interim Superintendent of Schools for the 2025-26 school year.

I attended UW La Crosse and began my career as a teacher and football coach in Houston TX. While in Texas, I received my master’s degree in educational leadership from Texas Prairie View A&M University. I served as an administrator in Port Edwards, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, Monona, Jefferson, and retired from the Stevens Point Area Public School District three years ago after a 36-year career in education which included 23 years as a superintendent and 10 years as a principal.

Since my retirement, I have been serving as an Interim Superintendent and will be starting my 40 th (and likely final) year as a public-school educator! I have been married to my wife Janice for 38 years, a retired school counselor who also steps in when school districts need additional counseling services. I guess we don’t retire very well! We have two children. Our daughter Jordan is 28 years old, recently married and lives in Chicago. And our son Lucas is 25 years old and lives in New York. Janice and I live in the Town of Rome (central Wisconsin). I have thoroughly enjoyed my career and am excited to have the opportunity to extend my work in the DeSoto Area School District.
