Our main focus in kindergarten is learning how read.  Kindergarteners go from knowing some letter and sounds  to being able to blend words and read books.  It's such an amazing process and one of the reasons that I love kindergarten so much.  

In my kindergarten class I teach reading in this order:

Phonemic Awareness

Rhyming

Syllables

Letter Recognition  (Uppercase and Lowercase)

Letter Sounds

Vowels

Consonants

Diagraphs

th, sh, ch, wh, ph

Magic E

Mr. Y the Sneaky Guy

L Blends
