My name is Derek Fuglsang, and I am the Principal at Stoddard Elementary and the Summer School Coordinator. I also have the privilege of serving as the District Title I Director, where I work to ensure all students and families have the support they need to succeed. My goal is to create a positive and welcoming environment where students feel supported and empowered to do their best. I believe in building strong relationships with families, and I'm always happy to answer any questions about your child’s progress and experiences at school.

I graduated from Maquoketa High School in Iowa. Then, I began my educational journey at Coe College, where I earned my degree in Elementary and Physical Education. Later, I pursued a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, followed by a Master’s in Educational Administration from Edinboro University. In addition, I earned my Reading License from Viterbo University, further enhancing my ability to support students in their academic growth. Before taking on my current roles, I served as the Principal of Stoddard Elementary. I began my career in the district in 2018, and every year since then has been an incredible journey.

As an educator, I’m committed to making sure every child has the tools they need to thrive. I believe in creating an environment where students feel safe, supported, and excited to learn. I take pride in the relationships I build with students and families and am always available to offer guidance or answer questions.

Outside of work, my family and I live in Genoa, where we love spending time outdoors. Boating, fishing, and exploring our community are some of our favorite activities. I also enjoy coaching Cross Country and Wrestling within our district and managing Summer Baseball programs. I’m a proud supporter of the Pirates, and you can often find me cheering on our student-athletes at their events.

I’m truly passionate about what I do, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with such wonderful students, families, and colleagues in this district. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our students and build a stronger, more connected community.
