Our 4K learners at Stoddard had a G-reat November! They explored the letter G, made bear crafts, enjoyed a game of BINGO, and even took a trip to see the movie Elio!

Each week, we're featuring a staff member to help you get to know the amazing people who make De Soto High School such a special place.
This week is Katie Stalsberg, our Elementary Music Teacher & 5th Grade Band.
🏴☠️ This is Mrs. Stalsberg's 5th year teaching at De Soto.
🏴☠️ She is from Westby, and currently lives there.
🏴☠️She recently got married to her husband, Mike! They live with their dog, Ollie.
🏴☠️ Her hobbies include: horseback riding, camping, going to the movies, reading, crocheting, and playing board games.
🏴☠️A fun fact about her is that she performs in many pit bands for school and local musicals.
🏴☠️When asked what excites her most about De Soto Katie says, "What excites me about being at De Soto is the students! I love their enthusiasm and watching them grow through all of their new experiences at school."

The Academic and Career Planning class recently learned about interview skills and resume writing. The students presented proper interview etiquette presentations for their classmates to show their skills. The Academic and Career planning course offers several opportunities for our students to gain insight on life outside of high school and gain experience through a job shadow to learn more about future career opportunities.

Congrats to our Athletes of the Week!

The Tech Ed Department did a little pre–Black Friday “shopping,” and the supplies are now in for our raffle hunting blind. Stay tuned—our students are hard at work, and we can’t wait to share the finished product!
They also are giving the visitors’ bleachers at Cottonwood Park a fresh update. Come catch a ball game this summer and admire the craftsmanship and effort our students are putting in.
As we wrap up the Thanksgiving holiday, we’re especially grateful for our supportive community and the partnerships that make these hands-on projects possible. Thank you for continuing to inspire our students’ learning and growth!

What started as a quest to learn more about ducks after seeing Mrs. Kelly's duck presentation at Prairie View turned into our first research project. To start their research students read books about ducks. After finishing the books, students still had unanswered questions, so they turned to the Internet to discover answers. In ELA 3rd grade spent a week learning about the difference between fact and opinion. Students' ducks have flaps that open to reveal either facts or opinions about ducks. The class loved researching animals and is excited for more research projects.

The Hope Squads held their monthly event Monday. The theme this month was gratitude. HS students were encouraged to add to our thankful turkey by writing something they are grateful for on one feather during their lunch period. Both MS and HS students were given the opportunity to either take a walk or draw with chalk during CST time. Here's some pictures of the event.

Here are some photos from Mrs. Boardman's Biology-105 class (college biology class kids take for 4 college credits). The students are learning the basics of generic engineering by conducting a bacterial transformation lab where they use heat shock to transform a safe strain of E. Coli to be ampicillin resistant and glow in the dark.
