What started as a quest to learn more about ducks after seeing Mrs. Kelly's duck presentation at Prairie View turned into our first research project. To start their research students read books about ducks. After finishing the books, students still had unanswered questions, so they turned to the Internet to discover answers. In ELA 3rd grade spent a week learning about the difference between fact and opinion. Students' ducks have flaps that open to reveal either facts or opinions about ducks.The class loved researching animals and is excited for more research projects.

The Hope Squads held their monthly event Monday. The theme this month was gratitude. HS students were encouraged to add to our thankful turkey by writing something they are grateful for on one feather during their lunch period. Both MS and HS students were given the opportunity to either take a walk or draw with chalk during CST time. Here's some pictures of the event.

Here are some photos from Mrs. Boardman's Biology-105 class (college biology class kids take for 4 college credits). The students are learning the basics of generic engineering by conducting a bacterial transformation lab where they use heat shock to transform a safe strain of E. Coli to be ampicillin resistant and glow in the dark.

Remember that trailer of building materials, well the students in Construction class have been busy. They are working on two hunting blinds and are nearing completion of them. (finished product pictures to come later) They will also be building a couple more with one being a raffle prize....stay tuned!

Each week, we're featuring a staff member to help you get to know the amazing people who make De Soto High School such a special place. This week is Carissa Brudos, Physical Education, 6-12 grade Visual Arts.
🏴‍☠️ She has been teaching at DeSoto High School for 6 years. She originally taught in the La Crosse School District from 2001 until 2020. She began teaching at Hamilton Elementary and Central High School for 3 years and then transferred to Summit Elementary and Northside Coulee Montessori until she came to DeSoto.
🏴‍☠️ She has lived in Retreat with her husband and two large fur babies, Tugg, an English Mastiff and Ripp, a Great Dane since 1999.
🏴‍☠️She enjoys spending time at home and with friends and family. She loves traveling and seeing new places, people and experiences whenever she can.
🏴‍☠️ She finds time to work on art projects and collect art from all her travels.
🏴‍☠️When asked what excites her most about De Soto, Carissa says I am excited to be a part of the DeSoto community to create meaningful relationships and experiences. I want to share my love for the arts and travel with my students and prepare them for the future.
