Students in Ms. Bark's Family Living class recently wrapped up their "Practical Sewing" unit. They started with hand sewing and basic mending and repair skills before moving into machine sewing. The unit concluded with students constructing their own pajama pants from start to finish, complete with Milwaukee Brewers flannel!
Throughout the project, students practiced practical skills including measuring, pattern layout, seam construction, hemming, and of course, how to use a seam ripper.
Did you know? De Soto HS annually alternates between two Family & Consumer Science classes - Family Living and Child Development- as part of expanding CTE course offerings.

Third grade wrapped up a unit on static electricity and magnetism by conducting science experiments. Students made hypotheses about which objects would be attracted to a balloon charged with static electricity and which objects would be attracted to magnets. Then, they tested their predictions and made some fascinating discoveries. Students also used iron filings to learn more about magnetic fields.
